Bees - bee keepers - casa mellifera

An interesting new project has started in 2012 in Ludwigsburg in the region Hungerberg.
The bee keepers of the region, with the help of the city of Ludwigsburg and the University of Technology built a house, made out of mud and other natural material.
The house is called "Casa Mellifera" and is supposed to be a house which offers information about nature.
Yesterday they celebrated the day of the apiarist with lots of information about the subject.
Bee houses were set up, one presentation included a demonstration of a honey extractor, the creation of wax candles and stories from the daily live of a bee keeper.
As it seems the bees and their lives are very special and sometimes they react just as the other animals we know. For example it was told that you have to pay attention to the young bees that they are always busy. "They must build, otherwise they will do foolish things."
Another told us, how the queen calls her bees which she chose for a special mission and tells them where to go and what to do.
As it seems, every bee is a specialist, some have especially large feet in order to press the gathered nectar in the different honeycombs.
When the bee colony is looking for another hive, special scouts are sent out to look for an ideal place to build a new beehive.
If you are interested in the subject of bees and bee keeping, have a look at my other blog
in English or German

Here are the different kinds of earth.
